Strengthening the NHS Workforce: NET Helps Learners Thrive in Healthcare Roles
National Employer Training (NET) is celebrating the success of its latest NHS Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP), which has helped unemployed individuals gain skills, build confidence, and move into meaningful careers within healthcare. The programme is playing a key role in supporting the NHS workforce while providing learners with real opportunities to develop and grow in their careers.
The programme has supported people from a wide range of backgrounds, including those returning to work after long periods of unemployment, individuals new to the UK, and learners overcoming barriers such as language or lack of recent work experience. Through tailored training, supportive tutors and clear pathways into NHS roles, participants have been able to take positive steps towards sustainable employment.
Learners on the programme have gone on to secure roles within NHS hospital settings, including Care Assistant positions on busy wards. Many are now working significant hours each week, applying their new skills in real healthcare environments and contributing directly to patient care.
Participants have highlighted the value of NET’s inclusive and supportive approach, particularly the confidence gained through group learning, clear guidance on NHS expectations, and practical preparation for the workplace. For some, the programme has enabled a return to the NHS after time away from the sector, while for others it has provided a first opportunity to build a long-term career in healthcare.
Jamie Green, Director of National Employer Training, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our learners and the progress they have made. The NHS Sector-Based Work Academy Programme not only opens doors to meaningful careers but also strengthens our partnership with the NHS, helping to meet workforce needs while offering our learners real opportunities for the future. We look forward to supporting even more individuals on their journey into healthcare roles.”
The NHS Sector-Based Work Academy Programme delivered by National Employer Training continues to play an important role in supporting workforce needs, while helping individuals rebuild confidence, develop employability skills and progress into roles that make a real difference.
