NET empowers Nottingham learners at SIA Security Open Day

On Wednesday 9th July, NET Nottingham proudly hosted a highly successful Security Industry Authority (SIA) ‘meet & greet’ open day, welcoming over 150 current and former learners to connect directly with leading employers from the security sector. The event exemplified NET’s mission to build ladders into employment by creating meaningful links between learners and local industry.

Attendees engaged with top security providers, including MNX Security, Magpie Security, Peak Security, and Mitie. These organisations shared valuable insights into real-world security roles and presented immediate opportunities for employment.

MNX Security delivered in-depth, eye-opening industry talks that demystified the day-to-day realities of working in security. Meanwhile, Magpie Security showcased their broad service offering and highlighted exciting career progression pathways, including the route into specialist dog handling, which sparked strong interest from learners.

Mitie then impressed with a wealth of job vacancies within JCP Security, resulting in over 40 applications on the day and several interviews already underway, demonstrating NET’s role in converting training into tangible job opportunities.

For many learners, the event was transformational. Natasha was inspired by the range of security career pathways available. Following employer talks, numerous attendees, including past learners, chose to enrol in further upskilling courses on the spot. A standout moment came from Adam at Magpie, explaining the value of obtaining a CSCS card to improve learners’ employability. NET swiftly took action, scheduling the relevant training to support his next step.

This open day reflects more than just a one-off success; it highlights NET Nottingham’s ongoing commitment to learner progression. By fostering strong, responsive relationships with local employers, NET ensures that its training remains relevant, industry-informed, and directly connected to real jobs.

As the security sector continues to grow, NET stands at the forefront, matching industry demand with skilled, motivated individuals. With interviews pending and fresh courses launched, we will be following our successful graduates as they take the next step in their careers.
