This Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) is tailored for individuals looking to start a career in warehousing, logistics, or distribution — a key industry that keeps the UK moving.

With thousands of opportunities across the country in picking, packing, dispatch, inventory, transport, and customer service, this programme offers a versatile and valuable entry point into a growing sector.

Delivered face-to-face over a short, focused period, the course equips learners with the qualifications, knowledge, and industry insight they need to hit the ground running — with progression routes into LGV Bootcamps or Forklift Licence training for those wanting to go further. Qualifications and training can be tailored to meet the needs of the job vacancy, the qualifications below will vary.

SWAP Qualifications:

Participants will achieve:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Warehousing
    Provides a strong foundation in warehouse operations, including goods handling, stock control, and storage procedures.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service
    Teaches how to deliver excellent customer experiences — a valuable skill across logistics, retail, and distribution settings.
  • Level 2 Award in Logistics
    Offers insight into the end-to-end supply chain, transport coordination, and the key functions that keep goods moving efficiently.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Industrial Environmental Awareness (IEA)
    Focuses on sustainability, responsible waste handling, and environmentally friendly practices in warehousing and logistics environments.

Entry Level:

  • Aged 19+
  • In receipt of benefits such as Universal Credit, JSA, or ESA
  • Basic English and Maths (initial assessment provided)
  • Committed to working in warehousing, logistics, or transport

Delivery Methods:

  • Delivered face-to-face over two weeks.
  • Taught by experienced industry professionals
  • Includes classroom learning, practical group activities, and progression planning
  • Support provided with digital skills and job readiness

What Next:

After completing the SWAP, learners can:

  • Apply for roles in warehousing, dispatch, stock control, and logistics
  • Progress into Forklift Licence training for higher-level warehouse roles
